THE WEEKLY SNATCH 3

I'm not sure whether it was John Peel or Bob Harris who said that 'punk rock attracts a certain type of person - those with a short attention span and very little'....something or other

So here's a quick snapshot of my weekly highlights (not including the other reviews) up til 9th June

Bit of nostalgia, some newish stuff and a festival.

CHELSEA

I'm pretty certain that I've seen Chelsea more than any other band, probably a close run thing with The Stranglers, but who's counting.  I was idly flicking and swishing (whatever you do) through social media when I saw this album pop up.  It's an unofficial 2004 release from V.T.O.L Records in Italy.  It's like a greatest hits album but with added extras, (see list below). The production is actually ok and I'm chuffed to have lots of old favourites on vinyl.  [EDIT] Please note that as stated, this is an UNOFFICIAL release and that the below tracks can be found on CD on the Chelsea Anthology Part I.  Here's a link  CHELSEA MERCH

THE SAMPLES

The Samples are an early punk band, and they're still around, I don't think I ever bought any of their records first time around but I remember that I saw them as support in the early 80's a few times.  I recollect that they had a decent, energetic pogo obsessed following, was Coppo one of these?
I spotted that they were due to play Rebellion 2020, so they were kind of on the radar and then this previously unreleased Lavender Hill Demos EP was advertised.  Looks like a limited run and all proceeds go to Worcester Foodbank.  Job done.  It's 5 tracks recorded in 1981.  All songs are throw yourselves about, early punk style, it's proper raw nostalgia.  Roll back the shag pile, play loud and bounce around til your ears bleed.  Track 5 'Waste of Time' is the strongest on this CD for me, but I enjoyed it from start to finish.
Well done to Skull King Records for bringing these tracks into the light.

PARANOID VISIONS

I was tempted to pre-order the upcoming, recently advertised gold coloured box set from Paranoid Visions and then I saw that Mr Billy Hunt had got his hands on a box.  It was then that I realised that this was Part II and I had not got the previously released first volume.  Thankfully Peter (I've mentioned his book before) Jones, was ahead of the game and made the excellent  Countdown to Pharmageddon Part 1 available for sale again.  It arrived this morning and it is truly a work of beauty.  The music is first rate, the box, the coloured vinyl, the song sheet, the CD etc..etc. If my inner geek had a cup it would have well and truly run over and made my crotch very damp.  Look at the pics!

UNDERCOVER 9

Previously covered, but the crowdfunder went live yesterday, here's the link.
Your support can make it happen, without the pledged support it's another nail in the live music coffin.

Hope that you enjoyed this quick snatch.  Keep 'em peeled!
